Facilities and School Safety
At Monticello, we recognize the value and importance of the health, safety and well-being of every student and staff member in the district and we are committed to fostering an atmosphere that supports it.
Providing a safe and secure learning environment is a priority at Monticello Central School District. The district employs numerous measures designed to ensure the safety of students and staff:
- Video cameras are used on school grounds, in school buildings and buses to monitor activity;
- Faculty, staff, substitutes, volunteers, and interns are issued ID badges that are to be worn at all times;
- After buses unload students at a single, designated entry point in the morning, school buildings are locked and monitored by trained staff members. Visitors must use an intercom to state their name and purpose of visit and must show a government issued photo ID* to gain entry to the building;
- The district conducts safety reviews annually to evaluate district-and-building level safety plans in accordance with New York State Safe School Against Violence in Education (S.A.V.E.) Law;
- The district conducts fire and emergency safety drills, as well as lockdown and lockout drills annually; and
- The district also provides a number of resources and programs aimed at protecting student personal safety and preventing children and youth from initiating or engaging in harmful behaviors such as the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), Extended Day Program, Supportive Learning Environment (SLE) Team, and Positive Behavioral Supports Program.

Lead Testing Results
State law requires school districts to sample all water outlets currently or potentially used for drinking or cooking purposes in buildings that may be occupied by students and to submit those samples to a state-approved lab for analysis. Read the most current results
Closings and Delays
The Monticello Central School District uses several different measures to disseminate information to the community in relation to school closings, delays and dismissals. Please note: parents who are concerned with road conditions in their neighborhoods are advised to use their own judgment in sending their child(ren) to school. Important safety rule: no parking in fire lanes
Visitors are prohibited from parking in areas marked as fire lanes at all school buildings. Parked or standing vehicles may prevent the timely arrival of first responders to the scene of medical or fire emergencies. Leaving a vehicle unattended in a fire lane may hamper emergency efforts. Thank you for helping keep our students and staff safe!
OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program
OLWEUS is a bullying prevention program that includes school wide, classroom, individual, and community strategies that create a safe and positive school climate, improve peer relations, and increase awareness of and reduce the opportunities and rewards for bullying behavior.
This anti-bullying program offers activities designed for use in elementary, middle, junior and high schools.

Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
In July 2010, the Dignity for All Students Act – or DASA – was established to promote a safe and supportive learning environment in all public schools, free from harassment and discrimination from other students and adults.
DASA establishes a number of standards for schools, when it comes to instruction, certain district policies and procedures and identifying and reporting incidents of bullying, harassment and discrimination in school.
Anonymous Alerts
Monticello students, staff and community members may use the app Anonymous Alerts to anonymously report instances of bullying, threats and violence.
