“Return to Play” plan for Monticello athletes

A message from the MCSD Athletics Department:

The recommendation to “Return To Play” is being made with the health, safety, and well-being of all student-athletes, coaches, staff, family members, fans, and community members in mind.

The science about COVID-19 is ever evolving, it will be important to remain vigilant to respond to new developments. Students and their families, along with school personnel, must recognize these risks and implement the best practices to reasonably mitigate these risks. Participation is voluntary and every individual will need to evaluate the risks that are inherent. At Monticello we will implement our “Return To Play” in 3 phases.

Phase 1:

Oct. 13 –  “Low to Moderate Risk” activity workouts can start. The following teams will start workouts for secondary students interested in participating. These workouts are voluntary, and attendance is not required. Students who participate will need to provide their own transportation to and from each workout.

Phase 1 Activities: Golf, Tennis, Cross Country, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, and Weight Training

Phase 2:

Oct. 26 – “High Risk” activity workouts can start. “High Risk” workouts may only partake in individual or distanced group training and organized no/low-contact group training. Contact between participants may only be incidental and any activities that are specifically designed to promote close physical contact are prohibited. These workouts are voluntary, and attendance is not required. Students who participate will need to provide their own transportation to and from each workout.

Phase 2 Activities: Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Volleyball, and Cheerleading.

Phase 3: TBA. Addition of middle school students.

Individual coaches will provide more information on scheduled workouts soon. Thank you for your patience and attention to this information. We all look forward to seeing every team active and out competing in the near future.
