Around 1:00 PM, today (June 12), several Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School classrooms had reached the maximum heat threshold of 88° F, and several others were approaching that temperature. As we notified families yesterday, administrators and facilities staff actively monitored temperatures at all buildings throughout the day (June 12). To our knowledge, these were the only classrooms in the district to reach 88°F.
Consistent with our extreme heat policy, all Rutherford students and staff were relocated to the Monticello High School auditorium, where temperatures were cooler. Students remained in the auditorium under staff supervision until dismissal time.
The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We especially appreciate the patience and dedication of the Rutherford Elementary teachers, staff and administrators in the relocation and supervision of our students. We are also grateful for our facilities team for their diligence in monitoring classroom temperatures; our transportation department for their responsiveness as the plan evolved; our security team for ensuring student safety during this process; and our families for their patience and understanding. We also thank the administrators and staff of Kaiser Middle School and Monticello High School who assisted in today’s relocation.
