Statement from Superintendent re: dismissal on Jan. 3

Earlier this afternoon, we received information from law enforcement that there had been reports of gunfire on Route 42 in the vicinity of Monticello Street. Although there was no indication that this incident was related to our schools or students, we placed all village schools still in session into lockout out of an abundance of caution. During a lockout, all entrances to the building are secured and no visitors are allowed entry.

At the time of this notification, the alleged gunfire remains under law enforcement investigation.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our law enforcement, including our student resource officers, for their prompt response and for their additional presence as we dismissed our students. In addition, I would like to thank all of our staff members for their help in keeping students calm and facilitating a secure dismissal. The safety and security of our students is always our top priority, and we thank you for your efforts in getting all of our students home safely and on schedule.
