The Monticello Central School District’s English as a New Language (ENL) Department welcomed students, families and community partners to its annual ENL Family Night on June 2, bringing together 202 attendees for an evening of celebration, connection and cultural pride.

The event, organized by the district’s ENL Department in collaboration with the Every Person Influences Children program (EPIC), serves as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of ENL families and strengthen relationships between home, school and community.

Throughout the night, families had the opportunity to connect with local community organizations that shared information about programs and resources available to support students and families. Children participated in arts and crafts activities led by EPIC, while students and their siblings enjoyed games and activities in the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School cafeteria.

A new highlight of this year’s event was a cultural fashion parade featuring students dressed in traditional clothing representing some of the many cultures and backgrounds that make up the district’s diverse student population. Students proudly walked through the cafeteria while families applauded and celebrated their heritage.

During the event, district leaders thanked families for their continued partnership throughout the school year and introduced members of the ENL team. Families also viewed a video showcasing student learning, classroom activities and the many accomplishments of ENL students throughout the year.

The evening ended with a rousing game of family bingo. Winners received prizes as families enjoyed friendly competition and time together.
The annual ENL Family Night reflects the district’s commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all students and families while celebrating the rich cultural diversity that strengthens the Monticello school community.
