Late in the evening on Thursday, Oct. 22, district administrators received a report that a Monticello High School student allegedly made a threat of violence against the school.
In accordance with the district’s emergency response procedures, law enforcement was immediately notified, and an investigation was conducted overnight that included direct contact with the student identified in the report. That investigation determined that the reported threat was not credible. All schools will operate on their regular schedules today. As an additional precaution, there will be an increased police presence at our buildings.
We understand that a report of this nature is unsettling. While we are limited in the information we can share about individual students, we want our community to know that this report was investigated promptly and thoroughly. The district maintains a comprehensive safety plan that guides our response to safety concerns. We encourage students and families to stay vigilant, and report any concerns to a school administrator.
We appreciate our law enforcement partners, including the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, for their swift and comprehensive response.
