It’s Monday in Monticello

October 19, 2026 | Video transcript

Hi, I’m Matt Evans, superintendent of the Monticello Central School District, and thank you for joining me for the October 19, 2026, edition of It’s Monday in Monticello.

Last week, October 12 through October 16, was New York State Board of Education Appreciation Week. On behalf of the Monticello Central School District, I want to thank our Board of Education for their commitment and service to our students and our schools.

Thank you, Colleen Borko, Tim Crumley, Dr. Heather Fassell, Wendy Galligan-Weiner, Todd Grodin, Melinda Gwiozdowski, Helen Jersey, Logan Morey and Meghan Stalter. And special thanks to our student board members, Aga Chowdhury and Sophia Zhang. Thank you for your support.

Congratulations to Monticello High School senior Jovi Roosa, who has been recognized as an all-state bassoonist by the New York State School Music Association. Jovi will perform in an all-state wind ensemble this December at NYSSMA’s winter conference in Rochester at the Eastman School of Music.

Congratulations, Jovi, and a special thanks to her teachers and family who have supported her.

Now, though site work continues here at St. John Street School, the roofing project has been completed. A new roof means no leaks and a tighter building envelope. In a building the age of St. John Street School, both of these are very welcome.

Site work and facade work are ongoing. However, we expect the parking lot to be finished soon. We appreciate the patience of our staff, students and community members as we work through these much-needed repairs.

And now for some calendar reminders.

If you haven’t already, please take a few moments to complete our communications survey. This survey can be found on our website, www.monticelloschools.net. We’ll be using the feedback gathered to improve our communication strategy. That survey closes on Thursday, October 22.

Also, a reminder that all Monticello schools will be operating on a two-hour delay this Thursday, October 22, for staff professional learning community meetings.

Well, that’s it for this week. Thank you for joining me. Stay well, everyone.

With Monti Pride, I’m Matt Evans.
