Robert J. Kaiser Middle School welcomed its newest Panthers this week during two days of Camp Panther, an annual program designed to help incoming sixth graders become familiar with their new school before the first day of classes.
During Camp Panther, staff members and National Junior Honor Society students guided the incoming sixth graders throughout the building, helping them learn where their classrooms and important school spaces are located. Students visited areas for music, art, home and careers, technology, business, health, physical education, chorus, band and library, as well as the Nurse’s Office, Guidance Office, AP and Attendance Office and Main Office.

Along the way, students had the opportunity to meet members of the RJK staff, while getting a feel for what a typical day at the middle school will look like.
Camp Panther also gave students plenty of opportunities to have fun and begin making new connections. Each student created a special tie-dyed Camp Panther shirt that they can wear on Fridays to show their Panther pride.

The transition to sixth grade is especially significant in Monticello, as students from Emma C. Chase Elementary School and Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School come together at RJK, with many meeting their new classmates for the first time.
By giving students a chance to explore the building, meet staff and classmates, and ask questions in a relaxed setting, Camp Panther helps take some of the uncertainty out of starting middle school. It also gives RJK staff an opportunity to begin getting to know their newest students before they return for the first day of school.
Welcome to RJK, Panthers!
