Cooke students give Firefighter Wayne VanderMeulen a retirement send-off to remember

Firefighter Wayne VanderMeulen’s final walk through the halls of George L. Cooke Elementary School as an active firefighter was one to remember.

Mr. VanderMeulen is retiring after 20 years of dedicated service to the community. Over the years, he has made a lasting impact on the students at the Cooke school, especially the students in his wife Jessica VanderMeulen’s classroom. Throughout his career, he often took the time to visit classrooms, participate in school-wide assemblies, and other events to teach students about the important role of community helpers.

As he exited the building, the kindergarten team and many other classes lined the sidewalk to cheer as he exited the school grounds, and to celebrate the conclusion of an incredible career of service.
