Dear Monticello CSD Community Member,
Since yesterday morning, we have received reports of six (6) new cases of COVID-19 positive students in Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School and three (3) at Robert J. Kaiser Middle School. Most of these students were last in their respective schools on Monday or Tuesday of this week.
In some of these cases, students were sent home from school with symptoms. If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, please keep them home until they are seen by a medical professional or receive a negative COVID-19 test. Your cooperation in this matter is critical to our ability to provide a safe and healthy environment for students to learn, and keep our schools open to in-person instruction.
Rutherford Elementary School
Yesterday, the MCSD received reports of three Rutherford ES students who had tested positive for COVID-19. These students were last in school on Tuesday, September 14. We are still conducting contact tracing for these three students and will directly notify affected families once it is complete. Out of an abundance of caution, students who were in class with, or bussed with these three positive students are receiving remote instruction while contact tracing is being performed. Remote instruction will continue for all students who Sullivan County Public Health Services deems as close contacts and subsequently quarantines.
Kaiser Middle School
Three Kaiser MS students—including a student at St. John Street School—were reported to be COVID-19 positive to us yesterday and this morning. The RJK students were last in school on Tuesday; the St. John Street School student was last in school on Monday. We are presently performing contact tracing for them and will notify impacted families on our findings once determined.
Any student or staff member who becomes quarantined will continue instruction through a remote platform. In some cases, this may be live-streamed instruction; others may be asynchronous work. Teachers will advise students on the schedules for this instruction.
We are working closely with Sullivan County Public Health Services (SCPHS) in contract tracing. While we advise contacts of our tentative findings, it is SCPHS that issues orders of quarantine after its own investigation. Contacts may not return to school until the order of quarantine expires, or cleared otherwise by SCPHS
All areas of our schools and buses have been regularly disinfected, and we’ll continue to disinfect them consistent with our COVID-19 protocols. Again, we ask for your help in enforcing our COVID-19 protocols by keeping your child(ren) home if they are not feeling well.

Desde ayer por la mañana, hemos recibido informes de seis (6) nuevos casos de estudiantes positivos a COVID-19 en la Escuela Primaria Kenneth L. Rutherford y tres (3) en la Escuela Intermedia Robert J. Kaiser. La mayoría de estos estudiantes fueron los últimos en sus respectivas escuelas el lunes o martes de esta semana.
En algunos de estos casos, los estudiantes fueron enviados a casa desde la escuela con síntomas. Si su hijo(a) presenta síntomas de COVID-19, déjelo en casa hasta que lo vea un profesional médico o reciba una prueba de COVID-19 negativa. Su cooperación en este asunto es fundamental para nuestra capacidad de proporcionar un entorno seguro y saludable para que los estudiantes aprendan y mantener nuestras escuelas abiertas a la instrucción en persona.
Escuela Primaria Rutherford
Ayer, el MCSD recibió informes de tres estudiantes de Rutherford ES que dieron positivo por COVID-19. Estos estudiantes estuvieron por última vez en la escuela el martes 14 de septiembre. Todavía estamos realizando el rastreo de contactos para estos tres estudiantes y notificaremos directamente a las familias afectadas una vez que esté completo. Escuela Intermedia Kaiser
