An important message from Superintendent Evans

Earlier today, we received an unsubstantiated report that a student had shown a gun to other students on their way to school. Our staff immediately contacted the school resource officer, and began a joint investigation. We also enacted school security protocols as delineated in our school- and district emergency response plans.

After working closely with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, they have confirmed that no student was found to be in possession of a gun, nor was any student found to have shown a gun to other students on their way to school this morning.

We take any threat to school safety seriously, and will use every resource available to mitigate any potential threat. We appreciate the efforts of our staff and partners in law enforcement who completed this investigation. We remind everyone to report threats or acts of violence to law enforcement or school administration if they are suspected to happen on school grounds.

Matthew T. Evans, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
