The Monticello Central School District is aware of a recent jury verdict in a case concerning an incident from 2022. As the matter remains in active litigation, the district will not comment on the specifics of the case at this time.
Student safety and well-being remain a top priority for the district. The district takes a proactive, comprehensive approach to meeting student needs, continually reviewing its programs, resources and procedures to help ensure students feel safe, supported, and connected at school.
Districtwide support includes restorative practices and circles, mediation opportunities, an on-site mental health clinic, and embedded social-emotional learning classes. The district also has clearly established procedures for reporting and responding to any concerns under the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA). Any reports or allegations received are taken seriously and addressed promptly.
At Monticello High School, students also participate in monthly advisory meetings with teachers and counseling staff to collaboratively identify any challenges, and/or any social-emotional support they may need. A freshman seminar provides additional guidance as ninth-grade students adjust to the expectations and routines of high school.
