Monticello High School athletes on the soccer and football teams became the first students to set foot on the new Ed Kennedy Field when fall athletic practices began last week, and our director of communications was out on the field to capture their reactions. Suffice it to say, the new field was an instant hit.
Here’s just a sampling of their responses:
“When I’m on this field, I feel like a real football team.”
“I can focus on the game, instead of on the field.”
“I’m just really glad that Monticello is building itself up. It has to start with the community.”
As part of the capital improvement project approved by voters in 2024, the field was completed refitted with new turf, and the track expanded from six lanes to eight. The construction also included storage areas, and lighting.
Construction continues on Panther Stadium — a new state-of-the-art facility that includes a 1,000-seat grandstand, pressbox, restrooms, a concession area, and more.
While construction on Panther Stadium is still ongoing, Ed Kennedy Field will only be used for team practices, and will not be open for home games, or public use. But, the district looks forward to reopening our athletics facilities with a cutting-edge, beautiful stadium and field that we believe will be the pride of the community for generations to come.
