Monticello High School held its annual Senior Honors Night on Tuesday, June 17. The ceremony recognizes students who have received scholarships, been members of honor societies, earned cords/sashes, or otherwise achieved significant success.

The students honored tonight will all have the opportunity to proudly walk across the stage on graduation day wearing the cords and sashes that they received on Senior Honors Night — all except one.

William “Liam” Burns III will be noticeably absent from the graduation stage (but for a remarkable reason). Instead of donning a cap and gown alongside his classmates, Liam will be reporting to the United States Air Force Academy, where he has earned a coveted appointment. To celebrate this milestone, Lieutenant Colonel Tim Wainwright formally presented Liam with a Certificate of Appointment at Senior Honor Night.

While his presence will be missed at our graduation ceremony, we take pride in his achievement and wish him success as he begins this honorable journey.
