The Emma C. Chase Elementary School held its annual Flag Day ceremony with a little help from veterans from the American Legion 1266. In preparation for the assembly, all fifth-grade students learned about the history of Flag Day and wrote an essay about what the American flag means to them.
During the ceremony, the veterans addressed the students, discussing the importance of patriotism and sharing some of their experiences, and their pride in serving their country. After the presentation, they announced the winners of the fifth-grade essay contest.
A big congratulations to the winners –Hannalise Vanderkooy, Ethan Wolfe and Navya Patel; and a big “thank you” to the veterans, both for their service and for taking the time to speak to our students.
