Dear Parents,
The growth and development of our students’ literacy and math skills are priorities in Monticello Central Schools. Literacy is the ability to read, write, speak, and listen to communicate effectively and with authority to a variety of audiences as we make sense of the world. Math skills, or numeracy, include the ability to confidently access, use, interpret, and communicate mathematical information and ideas in school and in our everyday lives. We know that these skills are crucial to enabling our students to achieve success in school, and in life beyond.
Monticello Central School District is a Title 1 District. This means that we can put even greater emphasis on providing our students more individualized literacy and math support to meet their needs and achieve their potential. We have embraced Leveled Instruction for All (LIA) students in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. In addition to the instruction your child receives from the classroom teacher, he or she may receive instruction from an interventionist and/or a teacher assistant. Leveled instruction in our classrooms will focus on reviewing and reinforcing literacy and math skills using a variety of teaching methods and approaches.
Preparing our students to be successful in the 21st century means the standards our children are expected to meet have become more rigorous. Students who are not meeting these standards will receive Leveled Instruction and Intervention Services- Tier 2 or Tier 3 depending on need. If your child receives Tier 2 or Tier 3 services, you will receive progress reports throughout the school year, based on the goals of a continuously updated action plan. You will be notified in writing by your child’s teacher if this occurs. We are all part of the team to help your child be a successful learner and your involvement in your child’s growth plan is essential to his or her success.

El crecimiento y desarrollo de las habilidades de alfabetización y matemáticas de nuestros estudiantes son prioridades en las Escuelas Centrales de Monticello.
