Learn more about these two remarkable individuals:
Ryan Jasper

Mr. Jasper’s professional journey reflects his deep commitment to education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sports management, a master’s in physical education, and a certificate in administration—credentials that reflect both his dedication to lifelong learning and his investment in preparing the next generation.
Ryan has been known not only for his technical skill but also for his ability to ignite passion and confidence in his students. His influence reaches beyond athletics, as he inspires students to push past self-doubt and achieve goals they once thought impossible.
Ryan’s leadership has shaped Monticello athletics in countless ways. From recruiting and developing new athletes to organizing opportunities like team trips to Syracuse, where students met legendary local basketball star Tammi Reece, he has consistently found innovative ways to expand students’ experiences and broaden their horizons.
His influence can also be seen across the district: in the banners flying proudly on campus, the revamped Panther claw mark merchandise, and his contributions to the planning of the new Panther Stadium, which will serve as a lasting hub for school spirit and community pride.
In addition to his coaching and teaching, Ryan has worked tirelessly to celebrate student success. He coordinated more than 600 varsity awards this past year alone, ensuring that every athlete felt recognized for their hard work and dedication.
Board of Education Trustee Todd Grodin, who nominated Ryan for the Outstanding Educator Award, praised his ability to “build fires in people to realize and actualize their potentials.” His signature phrase—“There has never been a better time to be a Panther”—has become a rallying cry for students and staff alike, embodying the energy and optimism he brings to Monticello every day.
Heather Fassell
Heather, a proud Monticello alumna from the Class of 1997, has always had Panther blue in her heart. Together with her husband, Tom, she is raising two children who currently attend Monticello schools, continuing a strong family connection to the district.
Her leadership and commitment to students have long been evident through her deep involvement in the district’s PTO organizations. Heather first became active at Emma C. Chase Elementary School, and today she continues her service with the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School PTO. Over the years, she has played a key role in organizing school dances, field trips, and special recognition gifts at student award ceremonies. These efforts have created lasting memories for students and strengthened the sense of community in Monticello schools.
Beyond her PTO work, Heather is also widely recognized for her extraordinary running streak—spanning more than six thousand miles over eight years without missing a single day since 2017. Her perseverance and discipline serve as an inspiration to others, and she has used this passion to motivate community members to get active. Heather has encouraged participation in PTO-sponsored events such as the color run fundraiser, which welcomes students, families, and community members of all ages. She also serves as organizer and facilitator of the Roosa Gap Roller Coaster Run in Wurtsboro, further demonstrating her commitment to community health and wellness.
In her nomination letter, Board of Education Trustee Ashley Rielly highlighted Heather’s selfless and honorable character and the countless ways she has worked to elevate student well-being. From fundraising to fitness, her actions reflect the values of service, perseverance, and care for others.
The two will be presented with their awards at the annual SCSBA awards dinner, which will be held on Monday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. at the Villa Roma resort in Callicoon.
