Dear RJK Students and Families:
The RJK Middle School is pleased to announce our RJK Summer Academies for the Summer of 2021. The descriptions for the different academies are below and are available to all students on a first come, first serve basis.
Academies will run in 2-week blocks, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Transportation to and from RJK will be provided, as will breakfast and lunch. Students can choose from one of the following sessions:
Session 1: July 12, 2021 – July 23, 2021
Session 2: August 2, 2021 – August 13, 2021

- Environmental Academy: (1stSession only) Students will gain an appreciation and understanding of nature, their surroundings, and world at large. This learning is grounded in the Next Generation Science Learning Standards, ecosystems, and the biosphere. Student interests, awareness, and knowledge of ecosystems services and sustainability will be enhanced.
- STEAM Academy: Students will integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through project-based learning. Participants will be expected to engage their creativity, enhance their approach to problem-solving, develop communications, and critical thinking skills. Students will deepen their understanding of math and science concepts through team building activities.
- Fine Arts Academy: Students will use artistic design to enhance their understanding of cultural exposure, creativity, social harmony, and appreciation of diversity. Participants will take a proactive role in gaining exposure to the artistic techniques, theory, design, and practice. Students will showcase their work and proudly present their craft.
- Social Justice Academy: Students are empowered to analyze fairness and equity within our community, nation, and world. The Social Justice Academy will focus students’ attention to view that everyone deserves equal economical, political, social rights, and opportunities. Human interactions, historical insights, as well as personal responsibility will be emphasized.
- Music Theatre Academy: Students will learn various performance skills through theatre and music. Specifically, students will discover history of musical and theatrical performance, learn performance skills through theatre/music games, learn how to play instruments, learn acting through lines and scenes, and conduct character studies. Students will then have the chance to perform what they have learned at the end of the session.
- Wellness Academy: Students will focus their attention to wellness, physical fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices. The knowledge gained during this timeframe will afford students the opportunity to maintain their physical fitness, personal hygiene, participation in safe physical activities, and maintain their school and home environments.

La Escuela Intermedia RJK se complace en anunciar nuestras Academias de Verano RJK para el verano de 2021. Las descripciones de las diferentes academias se encuentran a continuación y están disponibles para todos los estudiantes por orden de llegada. A) Academia Ambiental: (solo la primera sesión) Los estudiantes obtendrán una apreciación y comprensión de la naturaleza, su entorno y el mundo en general. Este aprendizaje se basa en los Estándares de aprendizaje de ciencias de la próxima generación, los ecosistemas y la biosfera. Se mejorarán los intereses, la conciencia y el conocimiento de los estudiantes sobre los servicios de los ecosistemas y la sostenibilidad.
B) Academia STEAM: los estudiantes integrarán ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería, artes y matemáticas a través del aprendizaje basado en proyectos. Se espera que los participantes involucren su creatividad, mejoren su enfoque para la resolución de problemas, desarrollen comunicaciones y habilidades de pensamiento crítico. Los estudiantes profundizarán su comprensión de los conceptos de matemáticas y ciencias a través de actividades de formación de equipos.
C) Academia de Bellas Artes: Los estudiantes utilizarán el diseño artístico para mejorar su comprensión de la exposición cultural, la creatividad, la armonía social y la apreciación de la diversidad. Los participantes asumirán un papel proactivo en la exposición a las técnicas artísticas, la teoría, el diseño y la práctica. Los estudiantes mostrarán su trabajo y presentarán con orgullo su oficio.
D) Academia de justicia social: los estudiantes tienen el poder de analizar la justicia y la equidad dentro de nuestra comunidad, nación y mundo. La Academia de Justicia Social centrará la atención de los estudiantes para que vean que todos merecen iguales derechos económicos, políticos, sociales y oportunidades. Se enfatizarán las interacciones humanas, las percepciones históricas y la responsabilidad personal.
E) Academia de teatro musical: los estudiantes aprenderán varias habilidades de interpretación a través del teatro y la música. Específicamente, los estudiantes descubrirán la historia de la interpretación musical y teatral, aprenderán habilidades de interpretación a través de juegos de teatro / música, aprenderán a tocar instrumentos, aprenderán a actuar a través de líneas y escenas, y realizarán estudios de personajes. Luego, los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de realizar lo que han aprendido al final de la sesión.
F) Academia de bienestar: los estudiantes centrarán su atención en el bienestar, la aptitud física y las elecciones de estilo de vida saludable. El conocimiento adquirido durante este período de tiempo brindará a los estudiantes la oportunidad de mantener su condición física, higiene personal, participación en actividades físicas seguras y mantener su ambiente escolar y hogareño.
