MHS government class learns important lessons from legislator visit

Sullivan County Legislator Elect District 9, Terry Bernardo, visited Lourdes Georges’ government class at Monticello High School. She discussed what the role of the legislature is, and heard the students’ perceptions of issues impacting Sullivan County, such as the conditions of the roads, homelessness, and lack of resources for families struggling with hunger.

During the presentation, students learned how to contact their elected officials to advocate for their concerns, and the importance of voting, especially in local elections — all very important lessons for American citizens
