A message from Superintendent Evans:
Dear Monticello Community:
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying a restful and rejuvenating summer.
I am pleased to share two important policy updates recently approved by the Board of Education, which will take effect when students return to school this fall. These changes are the result of months of thoughtful discussion and collaboration among stakeholder committees focused on student cell phone use and grading practices.
1. Students and Personal Electronic Devices
The Board has approved revisions to the its policy on student use of personal electronic devices. Beginning this fall, students will not be permitted to use or access personal electronic devices during the school day—from the first bell to the last. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Cell phones (with or without internet access)
- Personal tablets
- Headphones and earbuds
- Smartwatches
- Gaming devices
2. Grading Systems
The Board has also adopted updates to its grading policy. These changes aim to provide students, families, and staff with more accurate, consistent, and timely information about student progress and achievement.
Further details on how these policies will be implemented will be shared by your child’s school in the coming weeks.
We extend our sincere thanks to the committee members, administrators, and Board of Education members whose dedication and input were instrumental in shaping these improvements. These updates are designed to support student well-being and improve academic outcomes.
