On the inaugural Professional Learning Community (PLC) half day, teachers throughout the Monticello Central School District stepped away from their regular classroom routines to focus on collaboration and continuous improvement. The first of five such days scheduled in the 2025-26 school year, PLC half days provide educators with dedicated time to analyze student learning, refine instruction, and strengthen consistency across grade levels and subjects.
After students are dismissed early, teachers met in grade-level and subject-area teams to review assessment data, examine student work, and identify trends in learning. These discussions help educators determine which instructional strategies are working well and where adjustments can be made to support all students.
Teams also used the time to align curriculum and assessments with state standards and district learning goals. By working together, teachers ensure that instruction across the district remains rigorous, coherent, and equitable for every learner.
In addition to collaborative planning, educators shared effective teaching practices and explored new instructional approaches. Instructional coaches, building leaders, and specialists guide these sessions, offering professional development on topics such as literacy, differentiation and technology integration.
These sessions are a key part of Monticello’s ongoing commitment to student success. By investing time in teacher collaboration, the district helps ensure that every classroom benefits from shared expertise, thoughtful planning, and evidence-based practices — all aimed at improving outcomes for Monticello students.
