Fourth- and fifth-grade English as a New Language (ENL) students at Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School recently shared their research and presentation skills during a special ENL publishing assembly led by ENL teacher Tianny Almanzar.

During the assembly, students presented research projects to their parents highlighting influential African Americans they studied as part of the school’s Black History Month activities in February.
Each student selected an important historical figure to research and included information about the individual’s life, accomplishments and contributions to society. Students then presented their findings during the publishing assembly, which served as the culminating activity for the project.

The event celebrated not only the students’ academic work, but also their continued dedication and perseverance while learning a new language. Families had the opportunity to see the progress students have made in both their research and communication skills.

Ms. Almanzar thanked KLR Principal Mrs. Serrano for her continued support in planning activities focused on student and parent engagement.
“All students did a great job and they felt very proud,” Ms. Almanzar said. “Monti Pride!”
