Join us for a magical evening at Cooke School on Thursday, Nov. 6 as we walk along our new nature path guided by the warm glow of lanterns!
5:30 PM: Lantern making workshop (or you can bring your own homemade lantern)
5:45 PM: Our Lantern Walk begins. After a traditional tale is told, we will “light” our lanterns and begin our peaceful stroll (no running) along the luminaria lit nature path. We will sing traditional songs along our walk. At the end of the walk, we will enjoy hot cocoa and treats.
6:45 PM: our event ends
The Lantern Walk is designed to help kids notice and welcome the darkness that comes as winter approaches. Originating in Europe, it celebrates the inner light in each of us and the importance of sharing it with others, cultivating generosity and kindness.
November 13th is World Kindness Day. We will be collecting socks and gloves at our event for our students to use outside as the weather turns colder.
Please dress for the outdoors. Bring a flashlight as the walk to and from the parking lot may be dark. Only flameless candles will be permitted at the event.
Please note that each family will need to sign a waiver upon arrival at the event acknowledging that they are participating in this event at their own risk. Since our nature path areas are unlit and the ground is uneven, the Monticello Central School District is not to be held responsible for any injuries that may happen to you or a member of your family at this event.
Let your inside light shine brightly as we light up the night together! Please RSVP by November 4th. Return the form that was backpacked home with your child. Our rain date is November 13th.
