On Friday, Oct. 3, the Monticello Central School District will induct two individuals into its Hall of Distinction at the twelfth-annual induction ceremony. The public is welcome, and encouraged, to attend. The event will commence at 4:30 p.m., with light refreshments at Monticello High School, and the ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. in the Arnold Packer Hughs Auditorium in front of the families of the inductees, MCSD staff, the MCSD Board of Education, the Hall of Distinction Committee and the local community. The inductees for the 2025 Hall of Distinction are:
Daniel L. Briggs
Daniel L. Briggs was born June 22, 1952, the eldest son of four children born to Gerald and Corinne Briggs. Danny attended Monticello Central Schools grades K through 12, graduating Monticello High School in 1970.
He later attended and graduated from St. Lawrence University with a BA degree and later a Juris Doctorate from Quinnipiac University School of Law.
In 1982 he was first elected Sullivan County Treasurer where he served for approximately 18 years. During his time as County Treasurer, Danny was selected by his peers to serve as President of the New York State Treasurer and Finance Officers Association and was also appointed to the Fiscal Awareness Strategy Team by New York State Comptroller Carl McCall.
Danny was also appointed as County Manager and served in that capacity for 5 years.
Following this he was appointed as an Assistant Commissioner for the Division of Housing and Community Renewal for New York State.
His Career in Public Service ended with his election as Sullivan County Clerk, where he served for 12 years.
Throughout his tenure in public service Daniel L Briggs was ever mindful of his roots and attempted to be a source of pride to his home Sullivan County and Monticello. He is the proud father of three children, Ryan, Christopher and Kate and two grandchildren, Sienna and Hudson.
Alex Cabrero
A proud graduate of Monticello High School’s Class of 1993, Alex Cabrero began his broadcasting career later that same year at Cable 6 TV in Middletown, New York. That first job sparked a lifelong career in television journalism.
Alex earned an Associate’s Degree from Orange County Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY New Paltz. His career has taken him to Idaho, Tennessee, and Utah, where he has covered several Olympics, the September 11th terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina, California wildfires, earthquakes in Haiti and Nepal, and the funeral of country music legend Johnny Cash.
He has received more than a dozen Emmy Awards and over 50 honors from the Society of Professional Journalists. However, he came in 2nd place for “Class Clown” of Monticello’s Class of ’93.
While in high school, Alex played baseball for Monticello, earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 101 in Rock Hill, and served as a volunteer firefighter with the Rock Hill Fire Department.

The Hall of Distinction honors highly successful Monticello alumni, former board of education members and former employees who have achieved distinction, outstanding accomplishments or made significant contributions within their school, family, career, community and/or personal lives. It was established during the 2012-2013 school year and is located in the lobby outside of the Arnold Packer Hughs Auditorium in Monticello High School.
