More Monticello High School students than ever before have earned the prestigious New York State Seal of Biliteracy, thanks in part to the district’s ongoing efforts to expand opportunities for multilingual learners.

This year’s increase in recipients is largely due to the addition of a Spanish for Native Speakers course. The class is designed to build upon students’ existing language skills—supporting them as they refine their literacy, academic vocabulary, and cultural understanding in Spanish. With this added support, more students were able to meet the rigorous requirements for the Seal of Biliteracy.
The New York State Seal of Biliteracy recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other language. In addition to meeting academic benchmarks, students must complete a culminating project and present their work before a panel, showcasing their language ability and cultural knowledge.
Monticello Central School District is proud of these students’ accomplishments. Their achievement reflects not only personal commitment and academic excellence but also the district’s broader goal of celebrating linguistic diversity and preparing students for success in a global society.
