Two staff members test positive for COVID; schools expected to reopen as scheduled following spring recess

Dear Monticello CSD Community Member,

Yesterday we were informed of two separate COVID-19 positive staff members: one at George L. Cooke Elementary School and another at Robert J. Kaiser Middle School. Both staff members were in their schools late last week (Thursday and/or Friday) and were in contact with 46 other students and staff members.

While we hope these students and staff remain well, we anticipate that all of them will be placed on quarantine. Our staff are working with Sullivan County Public Health to complete contact tracing and inform all who were in contact with these two cases.

Unless we receive notice of additional cases, all Monticello CSD schools will reopen following spring recess on April 5, 2021.

All areas of our schools have been disinfected since March 26, and we’ll continue to disinfect these areas consistent with our COVID-19 protocols. If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your health care provider. For more information on contact tracing and illness management, please review the New York State Department of Health’s Pre-K to Grade 12 COVID-19 Toolkit.

We hope that all of you remain healthy or, if sick, recover soon.

Stay well and please enjoy your holidays.

With Monti Pride,
Matthew T. Evans, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
