Late in the afternoon on Wednesday, January 14, Monticello Central School District facilities staff identified a minor gas leak within a wall in the high school kitchen. The building was evacuated, consistent with our emergency response plans. Only a limited number of staff and students were in the building at that time.
The fire department responded and determined that the building is safe for reentry. The gas has been turned off in the affected area, and we will repair or replace the line where needed.
While most operations–including heat–are expected to operate normally, the school’s hot water and kitchen’s gas service will be interrupted until the repairs are completed.
Our food services staff will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to all high school students. Our facilities staff will work to repair or replace the gas line as soon as possible.
We appreciate the response from Monticello Fire Department, and your patience as we resolve this issue. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
