MHS Boys & Girls Club seeking toiletries for “Comfort Closet”

The Monticello High School FACES and Boys and Girls Club Keystone Club are creating a “Comfort Closet” for their peers as part of the group’s year-long community service project. The Comfort Closet would provide students with toiletries and other hygienic products that can prove to be difficult for struggling families to afford.

“There is a significant impact on a child’s self-esteem because of poor hygiene,” the group wrote in a statement. “Not having access to these basic essential items, students start to lose interest in their education and become reluctant to attend school”

The group seeks donations of:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Mouthwash
  • Dental floss
  • Body wash
  • Combs
  • Hairbrushes
  • Bars of soap
  • Face wash
  • Hair products
  • Deodorant
  • Flushable wipes
  • Feminine pads
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Laundry soap
  • Dryer sheets

*All items must be new, and the group is unable to accept body sprays.

The group will also accept monetary donations, which they will use to purchase gift certificates to local laundromats, hair salons and barbershops for students.
