First-grade students grow butterflies

The remote first-grade class of Ms. Dutcher and Mrs. Post, and the in-person first-grade class of Mrs. DePaolo, grew caterpillars into butterflies while learning about the butterflies’ life cycle.  From caterpillar to pupa to adult, the students in each class were able to observe each stage of the cycle.

Once the butterflies had emerged from their chrysalides and had a few days to dry off, the classes took turns watching and releasing the butterflies. Mrs. DePaolo’s class even wrote a good-bye song and sang it as they released them. Lisa Jamin, our technology guru, created the following video of the journey:
