Monticello voters approve $84.1 million budget; elect three board members

On May 17, Monticello Central School District voters approved the district’s $84.1 million 2016-17 budget proposal and elected three board of education members.
The following results are unofficial pending verification of the absentee ballots; however, the ballots have been reviewed and will not impact the final results.
Voters approved:
• A $84,139,614 budget for the 2016-17 school year that increases spending 1.88 percent ($1,550,339) and carries a 1.65 percent tax levy increase: 828 yes; 497 no;
Seven candidates sought election to three open board of education seats. They are:
• John Kiefer: 905 votes;
• Matthew Sheiner: 295 votes;
• Lori Orestano-James: 811 votes;
• Steve Kurlander: 428 votes;
• Kamal Elsayed: 188 votes
• Incumbent Stacey Sharoff: 573 votes
• James M. Contrys: 486 votes
The terms are three years, beginning July 1 and will be filled by John Kiefer, Lori Orestano-James and Stacey Sharoff.
