Mrs. Prestianni’s third grade students at George L. Cooke Elementary School got a special treat on Oct. 22. Social Emotional Wellness Teacher, and Cooke Garden Coordinator Elisa Mendels visited their classroom to teach them about garlic and how it is planted.

After that, the students all got to go into the garden and plant garlic cloves in one of the garden beds. Each student dug a hole about four inches deep and placed a garlic clove into the hole, then covered it with soil. They planted about 60 cloves of garlic total.

After the students ate lunch, Mrs. Mendels made garlic bread and they all had the opportunity to have a taste. The students all loved it!
