Physical Education Curriculum Grades K – 5

Elementary Physical Education

Elementary students attend physical education class twice a week. Students should wear sneakers and attire that is suitable for exercising. Students are graded quarterly based on the New York State Standards. They are:

Standard #1: Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns

Standard #2: Follows classroom rules, plays fairly, and demonstrates sportsmanship and

cooperation

Standard #3: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others

Standard #4: Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to

movement and performance

Standard #5: Recognizes the value of physical activity for overall wellness, enjoyment, challenge, and self-expression

Standard #6: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health enhancing level of physical activity and/or self-expression

Each student will receive a number grade on a scale of 1-4 or N/A.

· 2-Making grade-level progress

· 1-Not meeting grade level standards

· N/A – Not applicable (standard was not assessed)

*Students will also receive 2/3 comments related to the number assessment.
