Dear Monticello Central School District Community Member,
I hope this finds you and your family well, and enjoying your summer
Under normal circumstances, this would be a simple, “looking forward to meeting you,” letter by an incoming superintendent. These obviously are not simple times, and while I am eager to serve this community, I also recognize the challenges that lie ahead of us.
As I set out on this new journey in service of this district, I want to assure you that my priority is to provide the highest educational and extracurricular opportunities possible, while doing so in a healthy, safe, and financially responsible manner.
I recognize the stress produced by our current crises of the coronavirus pandemic, protests for social justice, and economic instability. But I also believe that these present us with real opportunities for deliberate dialogue and action. The gross inequities in American society along lines of health care, wealth, gender, and race are not new. But the mandate that we confront and mitigate them is reborn, and I intend to ensure the Monticello Central School District fulfills its obligations in it.
Our staff and Board of Education have been working hard to identify needs, and develop thoughtful solutions for them. In addition to plans that address the issues mentioned above, we are also in the midst of a capital improvement project. I ask that you “pardon our appearance,” during these necessary upgrades, and reiterate the district’s appreciation of the public’s support on this project.
Later this month, the principals and I will facilitate “Meet the Superintendent” nights as a way of engaging you on our work, as well updates on our 2020–21 budget. Each school community will have an Internet video conference, as follows:
- July 15: Chase Elementary School
- July 16: Rutherford Elementary School
- July 21: Cooke Elementary School
- July 22: Kaiser Middle School
- July 30: Monticello High School
All meetings start at 6 p.m. Links for these meetings will be posted on our website: www.monticelloschools.net.
You are also welcome to email me at mevans@k12mcsd.net, or follow me on Twitter at @mevansmonti.
I look forward to meeting you, soon.
Very truly yours,
Matthew T. Evans, Ed. D.
