An update after the storm

May 16, 2018

As we communicated on Tuesday, the district was closed Wednesday at the request of Sullivan County, which had declared a state of emergency. Many roads are still impassable Wednesday morning, with trees and power lines down. In addition, several transformers have been damaged and there are power outages throughout the area.

Within the district, Chase Elementary School and the district office are still without power. If there is a need for additional cancellations, that information will be disseminated as soon as possible.

For safety reasons and because of the request from the county, all student activities originally planned for tonight, Wednesday, May 16, have been cancelled. The 7/8th grade concert will be rescheduled and the district will post that information as soon as possible on social media as well as our website.

The board of education meeting will take place tonight at RJK Middle School Library. Executive session will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the public meeting.

There have been inquiries about the budget vote, which was held on Tuesday, May 15. Some residents asked if the district could postpone it or extend it because of the storm and the state of emergency. The district does not have the right to do either in a statewide vote.

Please check the district’s website and facebook page for updates.
