E.B. Crawford Public Library offers fun and educational events

April 12, 2018

From the E.B. Crawford Public Library

Here are some great events at the E.B. Crawford Public Library in late April and early May.

Lion Bars, Flake, Aero? What are these things? Come to the library on Monday, April 23, at 4 p.m. to take part in a taste test challenge, trying out loads of international candy! Be sure to bring your friends, and who knows—maybe you’ll discover a new favorite.

The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library is hosting an Anime Club! Come by on the fourth Thursday of each month to watch anime, discuss manga, and connect with other fans. Teens ages 12-18 are welcome. You’ll decide what anime to watch together, and share recommendations. Cosplay is welcome but not required. Be sure to bring your enthusiastic spirit of discussion, be it about Naruto, Miyazaki films, Sailor Moon, or anything and everything in between! This club is a great way to discover new anime and manga you may not have heard of or may have overlooked. Anime club does other activities too. We’ve made bubble tea, candy sushi, and taste tested all sorts of Japanese snacks. The next Anime Club meet up is April 26 at 4 p.m.

Teen programs are for ages 12-18. They are free and do not require registration. Call 845-794-4660 ext. 8 or email for more information on teen programs.

CRAZY 8s MATH CLUB - Registration required
Do you have a child in grades 3-5? Crazy 8s Math Club is a special new program just for them. “Math club” might sound boring, but this is not your typical school math. Have you ever played Air Traffic Controller with glow sticks at school? Kids who sign up for Crazy 8s Math Club will be practicing the math skills they’ve learned in school in new, exciting ways. They won’t even realize they are doing math! We’ll build glow-in-the dark structures, crack spy codes, and wrap ourselves up like mummies. Who says math can’t be fun?

Crazy 8s Math Club is a five-week program that we will offer multiple times throughout the year. The winter session will begin on April 25 at 4 p.m. and run for five Wednesdays. This is a very popular program and space is limited. Call 845-794-4660 ext. 5 to register

STAR WARS DAY CELEBRATION – Registration required
May the 4th be with you as families from around the galaxy gather to celebrate Star Wars Day here at the library. Join us from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4, for a night of Jedi and First Order training. Choose your side, create your light saber, and then train as a Jedi or a Storm Trooper. Master mind control, practice your blaster and light saber skills, and share some yoda soda and wookie cookies with us. This is a great event for families and children ages 4 and older. Space and materials are limited, so registration is required.
For more information or to register for the program, call 845-794-4660 ext. 5.

The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library is located at 479 Broadway in Monticello.
