Winter break activities at the library

Come have some fun at the library while school is out! Schools are out for the holidays, but that doesn’t mean you have to sit home. Come join us for some fun and creative programs at the library. Every day Dec. 26 through 29 we will be showing a mid-day movie at the library. The movies will be appropriate for all ages, so bring some friends and join the fun. Popcorn will be provided by the Friends of Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library.

We will also be hosting a daily program from 2 to 4 p.m. each day throughout winter break. Space is limited and registration is required for these programs.

Tuesday, Dec. 26 we will host a mystery room escape game for ages 7-12.
Wednesday, Dec. 27 we are teaming up with Savory Sweet Confections to learn about spices and decorate gingerbread cookies.
Thursday, Dec. 28 we will be creating our own movies using stop-motion animation. Bring your own device with the free app Stop Motion Studio downloaded. We will be using everyday items to create awesome movies.
Friday, Dec. 29 we will be using a button maker to create pins to decorate our backpacks or give as gifts to friends.

Weekly story times begin in January

The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library has weekly story times for toddlers and preschoolers. Story times in 2018 will start Friday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m.

Story times are every Monday at 10 a.m. and Friday at 11a.m. This is an early literacy program for little ones and their caregivers. This program uses rhymes, movement, songs, books, crafts, and music to develop skills that will help children develop the early literacy skills they will need when they begin to read. Story times are appropriate for ages 2-5. We also offer Baby Brain Time for younger children. For more information on any of our children’s programming visit our website at

All story times are free and open to the public. Walk-ins are always welcome and registration is not required. In case of inclement weather, story times will be cancelled if Monticello Central School District announces a closing or delayed opening, even if the library opens at our regular time.

Baby Brain Time for the youngest patrons

The Ethelbert B. Crawford library is offering a new story time for our youngest patrons beginning this month. Baby brains develop at an amazing rate; join us at the library to engage your little one in activities to help promote the ABCs of early literacy: Attention, Bonding, and Communication. Grown-ups and babies will explore different activities together as they develop these skills. This program is designed for ages birth through 18 months and for one child to take part with one adult. The program will be offered every Wednesday at 10 a.m. from Jan. 3 through March 7.

This program is free but space and materials are limited, so registration is required
