Dr. Robert J Kaiser Debate Tournament will be Oct. 7-8

Oct. 5, 2016

The Monticello High School Debate Team will welcome debaters and their coaches to the 29th Annual Dr. Robert J Kaiser Debate Tournament.

Rounds will begin on Friday, Oct. 7 from 2:30-9:30 p.m. and continue the following Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The public is invited to watch the competition.

The school’s 2016-17 team will continue the tradition and dedication of this invitational to Dr. Robert J. Kaiser. Dr. Kaiser was a teacher, principal, and superintendent for the Monticello Central School District for 38 years. He retired 28 years ago as superintendent.

From the debate team:

Through the efforts of many, our speech and debate program has stabilized itself through many changes in personnel and other challenges to which programs such as this fall victim. Dr. Kaiser perceived the importance and impact of such a program for our youth and committed himself to ensuring that such a program would thrive in the Monticello Central School District.

Though his presence is not visible daily, our students continue to reap the benefits that he has enabled so many to possess. As we are thankful our program has continued to survive through some tough economic times, we must also remember and pay tribute to the program’s founder, Mr. Edwin Brower, and long time debate and speech coach, Mr. Lee Bradshaw (17 years).

As always, the team continues to wish Dr. and Mrs. Kaiser and their family the best in the years ahead. Additionally, when numbers of entries warrant we host a portion of the tournament in our middle school, The Dr. Robert J. Kaiser Middle School, an excellent tribute to an even better man.
