Students, staff, compete in ugliest holiday sweater contest

Dec. 11, 2015

Ugly is the new pretty.

Otherwise, why would any student dare to wear a sweater decorated with tinsel, pom-poms, bells, puppies and kitties?

It's also quite fashionable, not to mention profitable, according to National Honor Society Advisor Sheryl Manz.

On Friday, Dec. 11, the Monticello High School (MHS) National Honor Society hosted its own version of an ugly sweater party where students and staff members vied for the title of ugliest holiday sweater.

Some contestants raided their mothers’ closets for the most hideous sweater they could find, while others wore original creations—embellishing plain sweaters with sequins, patches, ornaments, and even holiday lights!

Each participant competing for the title had their photo taken in their brightly colored and strangely patterned winter wear.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the school’s Holiday Toy Drive; the winners will be announced during the Toy Drive’s culminating assembly later this month.
