Volunteers needed for E.B. Crawford Library Book Brigade

Love books? Libraries? Events? Looking for a chance to put ‘volunteer experience’ on your resume? Join a great group of volunteers and participate in the E.B. Crawford Library Book Brigade and help transfer an empty building into a brand new library.

Community members and student volunteers are invited to participate in a book brigade transferring books by hand in a human chain from the old E.B. Crawford Library (393 Broadway) to its new building (at 479 Broadway) on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Be part of this historic event. To sign up as a volunteer, please contact Melanie at the E.B. Crawford Library at 794-4660 ext. 6  or e-mail Please include your name, phone number, the number of people participating and an e-mail address if applicable.

The book brigade will begin at noon. There will be a brief kick-off ceremony immediately following; there, volunteers will his/her assigned spots along Broadway for the book transfer.

The Book Brigade will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication of the new library at 1:30 p.m. Light refereshments will be served.

Book Brigade Parking and Gathering Points

On Oct.18, there will be parking available for the Book Brigade and ribbon cutting along Broadway. Public parking lots include:

 The St. John’s Street parking lot;
 the municipal lot behind TD Bank and;
 the parking lot at the new library (479 Broadway).

There will be people at each of these lots to help direct you to a place to stand for the Book Brigade.

The Book Brigade will begin at 12:45 p.m. , and the opening ceremony will start at 1:30 p.m. Please arrive for the Book Brigade by 12:30 p.m.
