Scholar-athletes honored at annual breakfast

May 20, 2015

Long recognized for excellence in athletics competition, the Monticello Middle and High School Athletics Department recognized an equally impressive record of academic excellence at its annual New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Breakfast Reception on Tuesday, May 19 at Mr. Willy’s Restaurant.

To qualify for the prestigious designation by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, a minimum number of each team’s players must have at least a 90 percent grade point average during the season.

The district’s middle and high school student-athletes were honored in front of an audience made up primarily by proud parents and relatives. Monticello High School Principal Stephen Wilder and Robert J. Kaiser Middle School Principal Nichole Horler presented more than awards to more than 115 students.

Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics James Ryan and Superintendent of Schools Tammy Mangus introduced the reception and led the breakfast’s opening remarks. These athletes have shown that while they are dedicated to their chosen sport, they continue to be diligent in their academic studies. Congratulations to all Monticello scholar-athletes, listed here.
