Financial Accounting Students Participate in NYSSCPA Career Day

June 20, 2014

Each spring the Manhattan Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants hosts a career day for high school students interested in learning more about what it means to be a CPA. Several members of Monticello High School's Academy of Finance attended the event.

The day began on Wall Street at the office of current CPAs. Professionals working in the industry shared their experiences and gave advice to the future accountants. Recent college graduates discussed the public accounting programs in their respective institutions, followed by an invigorating round of Accounting Jeopardy!

The morning ended with a human resource employee from a large accounting firm providing guidance about the job interview process, while demonstrating a mock interview with one of the student participants. By far the highlight of the day was the visit to the office of Berdon, LLP, a top 35 public accounting firm. Monticello students got to see firsthand careers at work in this company of 400 employees.

Perhaps one day in the future, a Monticello grad will lead a tour of an accounting firm participating in the career day!
