MHS offers summer school programs

May 20, 2014

The Monticello Central School District is offering students a 2014 high school summer school program that will provide credit recovery opportunities as well as enrichment programs. The first day of classes will be July 7th and classes will run from 9AM-2PM every Monday through Thursday until the New York State Regents exams on August 13 and 14. The summer program will likely offer transportation, as well as breakfast, lunch and small group instruction.

Students have the opportunity to regain course credit toward graduation requirements for classes not successfully completed this past school year. Students may register for up to three classes that they have previously taken in order to earn course credit. A  blended program of direct instruction will be provided to students, along with a computer program, Edmentum, which will offer online instruction, practice, and assessment related to state and common core standards. Students will participate in an advisory period daily from 9:00-9:15. During advisory, students will not only have breakfast but they will meet with their individual teacher advisor in order to monitor their academic progress.

The enrichment program will provide our Monticello students an opportunity to explore and earn credit for courses beyond the curriculum offered at the high school. Edmentum will allow students to dabble in an additional foreign language, prepare for SAT exams or even peruse courses for their upcoming school year to get ahead of the game! Students may take advantage of this enrichment opportunity from their computers at home or they may utilize computer labs at the high school during summer school hours. An Enrichment Facilitator will coordinate student enrichment blogs and discussion boards on a weekly basis.

Registration for the summer school program will take place at the high school library June 30 from 8AM-3PM. If students cannot attend the June 30 registration, please contact the district by June 26 to make other arrangements. Summer school registration will close July 3. Feel free to contact us at (845) 794-8840, ext. 10928 or ext. 10929.
