Comments Wanted on the New York State Education Department's Proposed Establishment of a Regents "Certificate of Work Readiness" for students with disabilities

The P-12: Office of Special Education is seeking public comment on proposed regulations to amend sections 100.5, 100.6, and 200.5 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education to establish a Regents Certificate of Work Readiness for students with disabilities (other than those eligible for the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential).

The proposed amendment would, beginning July 1, 2013 and thereafter, authorize school districts and nonpublic schools to award a Regents Certificate of Work Readiness to a student with a disability to document his/her high school preparation for entry level employment based on completion of career planning, course work and work-based learning experiences and documentation of the student’s employability skills.
