Students work together to create haikus

December 17, 2012

Students work on their haikuFirst graders recently learned about and created a haiku. Students identified words in poems that appealed to the senses. They examined the poem "Laughing Boy" by Richard Wright and discussed which of the senses he included in his text.

Pictured are Cady Marban-Rodriguez, Kaitlyn Morse and Jenaysia Johnson, who created a layout to use as a template for the rough draft of their haiku. The girls worked together, practicing cooperation and responsibility, to count syllables and collaborate about their final piece of work.
