March 6, 2012

Truth Muller, a former student of Cooke Elementary School, visited students in Debi Levine's fourth grade class to to educate them about the importance of bats to our environment.

Muller's created his project in order to educate his community about bats. His inspiration came from the book, Bats: Shadows of the Night by Dianne Ackerman’s the work and photos of Batman, and world-renowned bat expert and environmentalist Merlin Tuttle.

Muller first presented his project with his “Bat Booth” at The Wurtsboro Winter fest to more than 100 visitors, and then approached his former teacher, Debi Levine, to present a classroom version of the project for her class.

He is currently working at taking his environmental project to other classrooms and organizations to spread the word: “Don’t fear these good neighbors of ours. The more you get to know them, the more you will learn to love these uniquely wondrous creatures.”
