MHS presents HELLO DOLLY! as this year's musical

Monticello High School students continued the tradition of excellence in musical theatre with this year’s production of the well-known musical, HELLO DOLLY!photo from the play rehearsal

Considered a classic of the American Theatre, HELLO DOLLY! is renown for sheer audience enjoyment. Based on the play “The Matchmaker” by Thornton Wilder, with a Tony Award winning book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, HELLO DOLLY! tells the story of a charming widow, Dolly Levi.

"What do you do for a living, Mrs. Levi?" asks Ambrose Kemper in the opening scene of this most delightful of musical comedies. "Some people paint, some sew...I meddle," replies Dolly. This show is full of memorable songs that are sure to leave the audience humming such as, Put On Your Sunday Clothes, It Takes a Woman, Before the Parade Passes By, It Only Takes a Moment and of course, the famous title song, HELLO DOLLY!

Almost 100 students were involved in this production on stage, theatre orchestra, stage crew, house management and costuming. Directing this year’s production is Amy Phillips, Middle School General Music and Vocal Director. Serving as Vocal Director is Peter Frost, High School Choral Director. Choreographing the production is Karissa Mollicone, High School Dance Teacher. Costumes are under the able hand of Jane Powers, Foreign Language Teacher. Producer and Theatre Orchestra Director is Nancy Wegrzyn, High School Orchestra Director. Set/Lighting Design & Stage Crew responsibilities are being shared by Mike Mingo, Middle School Band Director and Laurie Kilgore, Elementary Art Teacher and Publicity & Admissions is under the capable auspices of Ann Trombley, Head Teacher and High School General/Chamber Music Teacher.
