Mamakating Library looks for team to compete in Sullivan County Battle of the Books

The Mamakating Library in Wurtsboro is looking for students in grades seven and up who would like to join its team for the Sullivan County Battle of the Books. The competition happens at the end of May but there is plenty of work to do before that.

The team members will read five books from different genres and meet as a group, every two weeks at first and then increasing to every week as the competition gets closer. The team will practice answering questions about the books they have read, polishing their skills.

Here are the books for this year’s battle:

  • Brave by Svetlana Chmakova
  • The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
  • Beyond the Bright Sea by Lauren Wolk
  • Dry by Neal and Jarrod Shusterman
  • Simon Vs the Homo-Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

This is a great opportunity for students to make new friends and read books they may not otherwise pick up. If you love to read, contact Emelia Estep, the Teen Programming Coordinator at the Mamakating Library at eestep@rcls.org, 845-888-8004. The library is located at 128 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
