Veterans award medals to essay contest winners

The Chase School was honored to have veterans from the VFW Post in Wurtsboro visit students May 26. Veterans Nick Pavone, Carl Bonitz, Joe Gallo, Ed Mair, Tony Ferguson, Joe Devlin, and Bill Johnson came to the school assembly dressed in uniforms that proudly displayed the American flag. Veteran Mia Hubbert led the assembly in patriotic songs.

During the assembly, the entire school audience was privileged to hear the three students who won the VFW Post patriotic essay contest read their work. Those who entered the contest were asked to describe their feelings about America - our freedoms, our rights and responsibilities - and what it means to be an American. The veterans said they had a very difficult job choosing the winners as all the essays were well written. The winners were: First Place- Sean Kane, Second Place-Annie Purcell, and Third Place - Jordan Fredell. Congratulations to all!
