Monticello Schools tech director wins national technology award

September 2006

Technology director wins coveted national award

Monticello School District Technology Director Shelley Rossitto, was presented the “Cisco, Growing with Technology” award in early November for her contributions to the advancement of technology in the district. During her three-year tenure with Monticello Schools, Rossitto has won our schools more than $700,000 dollars in funding through her tireless grant-writing efforts. Monticello’s award, second runner-up in the public sector, included a trophy and a $10,000 dollar grant for the district to purchase computer network equipment.

“This award has validated all of the work that we’ve done here in Monticello,” expressed Rossitto, who was adamant to mention that the effort was not hers alone, but a collaboration of administrators, teachers, other tech staff, and a supportive Board of Education. “It is an unbelievable feeling to be recognized by one of the largest industry leaders in technology today,” said Rossitto. “This award has given us the fire to work even harder!”

Technology use growing throughout the district
To give students a competitive edge in the changing world economy, Monticello Schools has been adding technology to its classrooms at a rapid rate. With federal, state and private grant monies procured by the district’s Technology Director Shelley Rossitto during the last three years, the district has equipped every school with SMART Boards; enhanced the science program by adding Probeware for data and scientific analysis; and has added laptop carts to augment curriculum. New technology is also enabling our schools to use video conferencing for virtual field trips; to offer online courses to students, and to launch an online program called Compass that students can use at home and at school to reinforce key concepts in math.
