Superintendent
receives community PeaceMaker Award
May 2008
Monticello Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patrick Michel has
been named the 2008 Sullivan County Peace Maker of the Year by
the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC).

According to DRC officials, Dr. Michel was chosen based on
his contributions to the community both through his role as
superintendent and his general community involvement. Some
of his notable work includes a collaboration with the DRC on
a peer mediation program for the RJK Middle School, his key
role in the formation of a coalition to bring the Boys &
Girls Club to Sullivan County, the creation of his Firehouse
Chat series (which focuses on giving a voice to district
parents and taxpayers), instituting an open door policy
within the district that has succeeded in creating an
atmosphere of transparency and honesty with the community,
and his involvement as a board member with the Monticello
Communities That Care organization (which has played an
integral part in the group’s success in bridging the gap
between school and community).
A recognition celebration brunch honoring this year's
recipients was held at
Hotel Thayer on Sunday, May 18.
